Welcome home

By the late 1950s, it became clear that another expansion would be needed. After a number of barriers to construction arose at the initial site, it was decided in the mid-1960s that a new state-of-the-art facility would be built from the ground up.

On January 20, 1974, Mount Sinai Hospital opened on its current site at 600 University Avenue. With 18 floors and 608 beds, it reflected our vision for a world-class hospital and allowed Mount Sinai to continue to establish leadership in obstetrics and orthopaedics, and introduce new specialties such as medical oncology, critical care and outpatient care.
